When she moved to New York for Graduate school, Bettina looked for something to photograph that would help her connect to her new surroundings in lieu of the nature she enjoyed in the South. In an otherwise bleak and filthy neighborhood, she found vibrancy, humor and anthropomorphic qualities in these unlikely sources: fire hydrants. The hydrant fascination has stayed with her through her move to LA and in throughout her travels.
