HUBBY ’s CoTour
October 12, 2008    3pm - 6pm, with an afterparty and Hubby shop at 6pm at A&R - 1716 Silver Lake Blvd. 90026

Los Angeles has always been a city where image and reality get conflated. No other American metropolis can claim to be so elaborately constructed, so much a creation of its inventors' projections and desires.”
                                         --David Ulin

No two impressions of any city are ever alike. An urban environment as complex and vast as Los Angeles teems with endless perspectives, each customized to the visitor or inhabitant who encounters it. If each of your friends marked their top ten favorite and most frequented points on a map of Los Angeles, the emerging collection of profiles would be entirely subjective, each revealing an L.A. as unique as a fingerprint.

Bettina Hubby’s CoTour 2008 celebrates and examines these infinite maps of a single city and how they ultimately and collectively reveal the true nature of a place. For this multi-media artist-designer, the neighborhood surrounding her Silver Lake home provides numerous destinations that individually possess a unique style and substance. Patched together, these swatches of place - as disparate as Cheetah’s Strip Club, the Silver Lake Dog Park and Trader Joe’s Market – form one uniquely constructed example of a full-bodied life, affirming the notion that one’s community is composed of a wide variety of passions and pursuits.

CoTour 2008 is a single afternoon experience. On October 12, from 3 -  6pm, some 40 invited guests will board a bus and be transported to the ten sites on Hubby’s map. At each stop on the trajectory, guests will debark the bus to find models outfitted in homages-as-garments, inspired by the site and designed by Hubby. Stops will involve live music, dance, refreshments and other “stimuli.” The final stop on the tour is at A&R, 1716 Silverlake Blvd. LA 90026, where HubbyCo's Shop will debut that evening at 6pm for its 2-week run. There will be food, refreshments and the map of the tour printed on site by Aardvark Letterpress for guests.

A book documenting Hubby’s CoTour project will be published shortly after the tour takes place and will be sent to everyone who purchases a ticket.
