Collage
selected works through 2010
“Collage allows me to build kinetic sculptures, impossible gatherings, and conceptual landscapes that imagine a different state of mind or future. It allows for an improbable dream to come true on paper. I collect, compose, and combine unlikely harmonies and forms. Dissimilar parts become wholes, such as a footballer’s musculature colliding with a silky gown. Often the works fuse together in an overt expression of joy and boundless action. There is satisfaction in nuzzling together inanimate objects to an intimate end. The absence of faces directs the attention away from personality towards the implicit sculptural forms bodies contain. Dreamlike realms and unknown beings emerge and, as with much of my work, there is humor within the resulting juxtapositions.”
VR (digital collage) Enlighten Up:
“The viewer sees themselves being seen by spirit animals and transcendant beings, and faced with the undeniable beauty of the natural world. This surround vision and sound may give one inspiration to join them in (en)lightening up. I enjoyed doling out spirit animals for each muse, such as giving Thích Nhất Hạnh a Coyote, and Pema Chödrön, a cat. The video ends with the Dalai Lama winking at us, to remind us not to take things so seriously and to enjoy the time we have left in this lifetime.”

White House lawn (digital collage) series:
“In White House Gathering, I brought together a high-minded group of superheroes, deities, healers, and thought leaders to bring their gifts and visions into the space. In a separate piece, White House Gardening, I re-planted the lawn to include a variety of natural medicines, crystals, animals, and psychedelics to supply mental and physical healing of its inhabitants. In the Maharishi Effect, a group of peaceful beings raises the vibration of the area just by meditating. What is not seen as possible becomes so - thought creates.”

Spiritual leaders, members of my family, strangers from the internet, and friends, are cross-legged on the White House lawn surrounded by spirit animals and healing objects. Picturing a positive outcome can affect an outcome, as found in the placebo effect, positive visualization, and other methodologies, including the famous experiment from the 60’s, The Maharishi Effect, repeated in the 70s and 80s with the same result. It revealed that crime of a city was reduced significantly by the meditators who were focusing on that area in their meditations throughout the study.
The work was featured in the exhibition The Vision Board, curated by Elizabeth Valdez, at Kopeikin Gallery in Los Angeles..

Jumping with… and Reflecting Animals collages:
In this ongoing theme Hubby humorously surrounds herself, her own art history, and the mirror of potential viewers with majestic and very very cute animals. To see oneself in the company of nature’s wonders is a helpful reframe. The series repeatedly utilizes VERY CUTE animals to subliminally impart wisdom and reverence for the nature outside and inside of ourselves.

Come Up and See Me Sometime, collages
By stacking hair-do upon suit upon gown, I fused archetypal feminine and masculine costumery and fairy dust to emit an omnigendered faceless portrait of vintage Hollywood. All are titled with quotes by the famous female stars of Paramount’s screen. I overarchingly devote this series to Mae West due to her sharp wit, bawdy banter, and bombastic glamor. She represents the strong female force in that era that stood her ground and won her crown in that male dominated field.
